COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARDS: NOMINATE YOUR LOCAL HEROES BY OCTOBER 31ST EXMOUTH!
Nominations for the annual Community Citizen of the Year Awards close on 31 October 2023, and it's up to members of the Exmouth community to ensure deserving citizens receive the honour of this award. Since 2002, this program has existed as a grass-roots method of recognising the outstanding contributions of people in more than 70 communities across Western Australia. Historically, the Community Citizen of the Year Award encourages active citizenship and volunteering, fosters a sense of belonging, and builds recognition and trust within community groups.
Supported by the Department of Communities, 9 News Perth, 6PR, and WA Today, nominations are now open for four awards categories:
- Community Citizen of the Year
- Young Community Citizen of the Year (16 – 30 years of age)
- Senior Community Citizen of the Year (over 65 years of age)
- Active Citizenship – group or event
The 2023 recipients of the Active Citizenship award include the St John Ambulance Exmouth Sub Centre and the Learmonth Solar Observatory Staff & Crew for their Exmouth Haunted House. Grace Keast won the Community Citizen of the Year for her inspiring efforts for the town.
In order to win this award, recipients must contribute significantly to building harmony and inclusion within the community, enhancing the community through leadership, or participating in an initiative that brought about positive change. Recipients are role models within the community, committed to making a difference.
These awards inspire Aussies to Reflect, Respect, and Celebrate the contributions of our neighbours to the community. Making a nomination only takes a few minutes, but the impact of receiving the award lasts a lifetime.
