Exmouth's New Skatepark And Recreational Precinct Officially Opened with a Bang: A Three-Day Festival of Fun

The Shire of Exmouth celebrated the grand opening of its brand-new skatepark this month with a three-day festival: The Exmouth Skate Fest.

The state-of-the-art facility, designed to cater to both experienced skaters and beginners, is part of a broader revitalisation of the local recreational precinct, which is a testament to the community's dedication to creating inclusive and engaging spaces for all.

The creation of the Exmouth skatepark was a monumental effort, made possible thanks to funding from various organisations. Key contributors included Santos, Lotterywest, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), and the Exmouth Cricket Club.

Local volunteers and community groups, with their significant contributions and unwavering dedication, played a pivotal role in bringing this project to life.

These contributions and the tireless efforts of local volunteers culminated in a facility that promises to be a cornerstone for recreational activities in Exmouth for all ages, especially for our youth.

More than 500 adults and kids participated over the 3-day period, and the Skate & BMX workshops were especially a major highlight, drawing enthusiasts from all age groups. Professional instructors were on hand to teach participants the basics of skating and biking, ensuring everyone could join in the fun, regardless of their skill level. For many kids, this was their first time on a skateboard or BMX bike, and the sense of accomplishment was palpable as they mastered new skills.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, only 60% of children ages 5-14 participate in at least one sport outside of school hours; Western Australia also holds the greatest difference between boys' and girls' participation (72% and 54%). Facilities like the Skate Park, BMX Pump Track and Recreational Precinct aim to encourage physical activity, helping to combat this statistic and encourage even more children to be active regularly outside of school.
